Transportation

It is easy to get around the city with Taxis serving downtown New Orleans totally over 1,600. Cab rates from the Airport to the French Quarter will cost $21 for up to two (2) people, for three (3) or more passengers it is $8 per person. (rates not warranted and subject to change)  Local bus fares are $1 and $.10 for a transfer.  There are 12 rental car agencies and  offering a fleet size of over 9,000 vehicles.  New Orleans encompasses 4,190 square miles or 10, 850 square kilometers and is approximately 90 miles from the mouth of the Mississippi River.

Festivals

Jazzfest:  The Jazzfest is billed as one of the world's greatest celebrations.  The 1999 Jazz fest attendance was 455, 000.

Mardi Gras:  This event brings millions of visitors to New Orleans with estimate topping 3 million parade viewers.

French Quarter Festival:  The French Quarter Festival provides fans with an opportunity to enjoy three fun-filled days of music, food and the history of the French Quarter.  The event attracts over 250,000 people.  (April 14 - 16) Events include local musicians on thirteen stages throughout the historic French Quarter, fireworks over the river, children's activities and more.

Essence Music Festival:  The Essence Music Festival is held each year over the 4th of July weekend. Enjoy three nights of music, a Sunday gospel music program and stirring seminars.  This event can attract an estimated 160,000 fans.
